Amazing news — on June 5, Simple won the Digital Innovation Award 2024 from the British Dietetic Association!

    Let us fill you in.

Last year at Simple, we developed Nutrition Scores — a nonjudgmental food feedback system that supports you to lose weight without a calorie count in sight. There’s nothing else like it in the weight loss app space, but that’s not the only reason we won.

    We won because it works.

    Nutrition Scores gets outstanding results

To win the Digital Innovation Award, an app tool needs to be two things:

    1. an outstanding advancement in digital tools, and
    2. effective at promoting better nutrition and health.

Nutrition Scores hits on both counts. By analyzing the nutritional value of our users’ meals — and scoring those meals on how well they contribute to health and weight loss — Nutrition Scores is genuinely successful at helping users build better nutrition habits and lose weight.

How do we know this? Well, we have the stats to show it!

Nutrition Scores’ impact on weight loss

Nutrition Scores has a proven association with weight loss — the more “Optimal” meals our users log, the more weight they lose.

Check out the graphic above, and you’ll see that by just increasing the number of Optimal meal scores you get from less than 10% to more than 40%, you can almost double your weight loss

Read that again: you can nearly double your weight loss results with an Optimal rate of 41% or more. You don’t need to be perfect. You can boost your success rate while still learning, trying new things, making mistakes, eating all the foods you love (even those that have fewer physical health benefits), and being a real-life, messy human. That’s pretty cool — and remarkably attainable!

We have more data in the pipeline on this, too: early indications suggest that every positive claim you receive for a meal — from “high in protein” to “low in sugar” and more — positively influences your weight loss results. More on that at a later date (fingers crossed!), but for now, these figures are super encouraging.

Interactive food feedback to guide you

It wasn’t just Nutrition Scores that caught the judges’ attention. The Food Feedback feature — which offers users personalized recommendations to improve their eating habits — was also an integral part of winning this award.

At Simple, we’ve been working hard on this aspect of the app, putting the food feedback task into Coach Avo’s capable AI hands. Whenever you need some help improving your meal’s Nutrition Score, Avo is right there to give you some pointers in its trademark collaborative, friendly coaching style.

Being able to make this an interactive conversation means you get recommendations that are tailored to you — which is a million times more useful than static, one-size-fits-all meal ideas (as you’ll know if you’ve ever followed an ready-made PDF meal plan).

Use Nutrition Scores to make healthier choices

This dynamic combo of Nutrition Scores and Food Feedback is truly an innovative way of helping you make healthier food choices — which is no small feat these days. Eating a balanced diet is a challenge for most (if not all!) of us. Any Simple tool we can build that cuts through the difficulties of consistently making high-quality choices is a huge win in our book. We’re going to keep innovating, developing, and building tools to make losing weight and improving your health as easy as we possibly can for you.

We’re incredibly proud that the British Dietetic Association has seen the value in what we’re doing so far — and even more proud that our users are getting genuine benefits from using our app.

To date, Nutrition Scores has been used over 28 MILLION times. That’s an average of over 150K uses per day! And we know that the more people use the app, the more positive results they get
