Melissa Renae

Freelance writer at SIMPLE

Bio

Raised in the US South by her Bahamian family, Melissa is a registered dietitian, a food, health, and nutrition writer, and a single mom exploring Florida life with her son. She earned her BSc in Health and Nutrition from the University of North Florida, completed her Dietetic Internship at Georgia State University, and later returned to GSU for an MA in Mass Communication. Over the past 16 years, she’s built a diverse career as a clinical dietitian, working with both adult and pediatric populations across specialties including diabetes research, renal dialysis and transplant care, HIV/AIDS and infectious disease, and senior community nutrition.

Alongside her clinical work, Melissa has always believed in the power of communication to make food and health feel more human and approachable. She’s edited newsletters for organizations like the Georgia Council on Renal Nutrition and Jacksonville Moms on the Run, served as communications coordinator for Diversify Dietetics, and for the past three years, has written for health and lifestyle publications as a freelance writer. Whether in the clinic or on the page, Melissa strives to create fun, relatable, and culturally inclusive content that helps readers take a deep breath, feel seen, and make sense of the food around them.

When she’s not working, you’ll likely find her reading at the beach, serving at her church, running with Jacksonville Moms on the Run, or enjoying good food wherever there’s a waterfront patio.
